MAKING OF FORM AND ORDER
This project demonstrates the relationship between light and a structure. The idea was to create a non-denominational church with light control. From reflectors to curved walls, these were all aspects that were integrated into the chapel in order to control light that would be coming from several directions.
Light Research
Kimbell Museum
This museum was designed by Louis Kahn. In this museum the light from outside came into the building from a slight crevice where the wall and roof meet and that light was able to bounce off the curved ceilings.
Convent La Tourette
The Convent La Tourette was designed by Le Corbusier and in this image he uses light canons to control the light that enters the building.
St. Ignatius
The St. Ignatius was designed by Steven Hall and this image shows the windows from the inside of the chapel and how the use of reflectors were used to control light.
Notre Dame de Haut
The Notre Dame de Haut was designed by Le Corbusier as well and in this image he uses small shapes like rectangles, squares, and circles to bring light into the hut. These patterns are shown all throughout this design.

Design Process
In my chapel, I incorporated the shapes and designs that Corbusier used in the Notre Dame de Haut on the roofs
I used Corbusier's idea of light canons to help control the light on the inside. I shaped the light canons a bit differently to match the Notre Dame de Haut shapes.
Floor Plan
I used Hall's idea of using reflectors on the inside of windows to control the lights direction, so here the light would be reflected onto the curved wall and roof.
